Hi, I'm Jacob Mays.

I created this Data Analysis Workshop because if you're anything like I was, you are sick and tired of being frustrated with analyzing your data.

Back when I first learned SPSS as a graduate student 25 years ago, I had major trouble figuring out which statistical analysis to run given a specific research question. Then once I finally figured it out, I also had difficulty interpreting the results and writing it in APA format. I wasn’t doing well in my statistics class at all. The only thing that saved me from failing the class was the passing of my mother in the middle of the semester. The professor gave me an incomplete and I would have to retake the class in the spring.

I was given a second chance. I was panicking. I couldn’t rely on the professor for help because his office hours were taken up by scores of other students. So, I read a couple of step-by-step books I found on SPSS. I studied these books at least 10 hours a day during my 3 week winter break. I would do the exercises repeatedly until I knew them like the back of my hand. My hard work paid off. I got an A in my statistics class that spring. In fact, I became so good in SPSS and statistics, that a year later, my statistics professor made me the project manager of his 1.3 million dollar research grant. This grant paid for my tuition and provided me with a $15,000 stipend!

Sixteen years later, I leveraged my skills in SPSS and research to become the head of market research in the B2B division of a fortune 500 company. I receive questions about analyzing and interpreting data from both of students and professionals. However, it’s difficult to help people with analyzing their data when you are not at the same location. So, I decided to create a web site containing video tutorials on how to use SPSS.

Results have been phenomenal: SPSSVideoTutor.com has trained over 60,000 students and professionals on how to analyze their data and interpret their results. SPSSVideoTutor also licensed our video tutorials to Walden University, one of the largest online universities in the world.

I personally invite you to join me and other graduate students and professional for my Day Data Analysis Workshop where you’ll begin to analyze data with my guidance and support.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, if you are a VIP Member, you can questions about content that is being covered during the workshop. VIP Members can also asks questions about your own data, if it is related to what is being covered during the workshop.

The workshop sessions are about 1 hour long and the pre-workshop sessions are about 10 minutes long.

- VIP Members will have access to all pre-workshop and workshop trainings immediately.

- Non VIP members will be given access to pre-workshop and workshop trainings bit by bit, over a 10 day period.

The workshops are on demand, so they are available 24 hours 7 days a week.

VIP Members - have access to workshop videos for 12 months.

Non VIP Members - have access to workshop videos for 30 days.

No. We assume no prior knowledge of statistics or SPSS. There are pre-workshop videos for beginners that you receive after your register for the workshop sessions. They cover basic concepts like what is a variables, how are variables measured, what is a mean, median, mode, and standard deviation, just to name a few. These pre-workshop videos are about 15 minutes long.

No. You do not need SPSS to attend the Data Analysis Workshop. You have the option of using our step-by-step Data Analysis Workbook, workshop data file, and video recordings to use with any other data analysis software program. or when you obtain access to SPSS in the future.

What You Will Accomplish In this Data Analysis Workshop

This workshop series is designed to guide you step-by-step through all the stages of the data analysis process, so that you can analyze your data quickly and easily, with skill and confidence.

Pre-Workshop Training

The Data Analysis Workshop - Level 1 (DAW1) assumes no prior knowledge of statistics or SPSS. So, during this pre-workshop period, you will learn the basic concepts needed to analyze your data. The pre-workshop trainings consists of 10 10-minute videos. They are taught in plain English and contain no formulas. You can complete the pre-workshop training at your own pace, taking a single day up to 5 days to finish. The pre-workshop trainings are free, and cover the following topics:

Measures of Central Tendency, Measures of Dispersion, How to define variables,
Variables levels of measurement, How to covert research questions into variables,
The normal distribution, Central limit theorem, Introduction to SPSS,
SPSS data entry, and SPSS syntax

Day #1:

How to Select the Correct Statistical Test

You will learn how to select the correct statistical test using your research question(s) and information about the levels of measurement of your variables.

Day #2:

How to Check Your Data for Errors and Missing Values

You will learn how to check your data for errors and missing values. If there are any errors and/or missing values, you will learn how to fix these issues. At the end of this session, you will have found and fixed variables with errors and missing values.

Day #3:

How to Recode Your Data

You will learn how to reverse code your variables and recode your variables into new variables. At the end of this session, you will have recoded your variables.

Day #4:

How to Compute New Variables

You will learn how to compute new variables. If you have a questionnaire that contains individual scale questions, you will need to compute sum or average scores from the individual scale questions. At the end of this session, you will have computed composite scale scores for your data.

Day #5:

How to Perform Tests of Statistical Assumptions

You will learn how to check the health of your data by examining if your data meets the statistical assumptions needed to run parametric tests. You will also learn how to compute descriptive statistics on the key variables in your data file, including demographic variables, and other key variables used in your data analysis. Descriptive statistics include means, standard deviations, and frequencies. At the end of this session, you will understand how to test the quality and health of your data.

Day #6:

How to Perform and Interpret Statistical Tests - Part 1

You will learn how to perform and interpret a t-test and ANOVA.

Day #7:

How to Perform and Interpret Statistical Tests - Part 2

You will learn how to perform and interpret correlation and regression.
